Exclusion of bats on the North Shore
At a glance: Bats can settle in attics and attics. In Quebec, they are protected and play an important ecological role: they are not exterminated, they are safely excluded using one-way devices, and access is sealed. As they can transmit rabies, any direct contact should be avoided.
Protected: we exclude them, we don’t kill them
Bats are useful and protected by law. The right approach is a safe exclusion, outside the calving period.

Recognizing the presence of bats
Guano (droppings) accumulated under an opening or in the attic, traces around a crack in the roof, and individuals that can be seen coming out at dusk. An odor may accompany an established colony.
Risks and legal protection
Bats can carry rabies (transmitted by bite or contact); They should never be handled with bare hands. Guano can also affect air quality. At the same time, they are protected and essential to the ecosystem — extermination is neither allowed nor the right solution. The Quebec government regulates cohabitation with wildlife.
How we intervene
We install one-way exclusion devices that let the bats out without them being able to return, then we seal the accesses and clean the guano with the required precautions. Exclusion does not occur during the calving period (summer), when flightless calves are present.
Preventing their return
Once the bats are out, cracks in the roof, soffits and chimney are sealed . Careful caulking of the slightest openings prevents a new colony from taking hold.
