Capture of squirrels on the North Shore
At a glance: The squirrel enters attics and attics through the roof, soffits or vents, where it makes its nest. It eats away at wood and electrical wires, a real risk of fire. Our technicians carry out a safe exclusion and capture, seal access and repair entry points.
The squirrel gnaws on the wires: fire risk
A squirrel installed in the attic can damage the electrical wiring. It must be excluded quickly and access sealed.
Squirrel sheet in brief
| Type | Diurnal rodent |
| Where it is found | Attics and attics (access through the roof) |
| Distinctive sign | Noises during the day, holes in the soffits |
| Main risk | Gnawed wires (fire) and damaged insulation |
| Recommended solution | One-way exclusion and sealing (1 cm wire mesh) |
Recognizing the presence of squirrels
Daytime noises (running, snacking) in the attic or walls, holes in soffits or roofing, gnawed bark and wire, and sometimes a nest of leaves and debris in the attic. Unlike nocturnal rodents, the squirrel is active during the day.
The risks
The squirrel gnaws on electrical wires (fire hazard), damages insulation and wood, and can introduce other pests. A female can also raise her litter there.
How we intervene
We install one-way exclusion devices that let the squirrel out without letting it back, capture it if necessary, and then seal and repair the accesses with fine wire mesh. The Quebec government recommends blocking access once the animals are out.
Preventing squirrels
Prune the branches that overhang the roof (at least 2 m), screen the vents and soffits with a mesh size of about 1 cm, and repair any holes in the roof immediately.
